La création des oiseaux
Series: Les classiques de Frédéric Back
La création des oiseaux est une légende Micmac, nom des autochtones habitant l'ancienne Acadie. Elle conte la terreur inspirée par Loup-Hurleur, le vent de la tempête, et la protection que donnent les arbres aux enfants pourchassés par lui. Incapable de les découvrir, Loup-Hurleur a recours au froid et à la neige. Mais la prière d'une petite fille atteint le coeur de Gouseclappe, le dieu des Micmacs. Il ordonne à Soleil de chasser Loup-Hurleur et Ours-Blanc. Gouseclappe ressuscite les feuilles mortes en les transformant en oiseaux. Depuis, le miracle se renouvelle chaque printemps : les oiseaux reviennent se poser sur les arbres où ils ont pris naissance.
