Monarch and Milkweed

This video introduces the life cycle of the monarch butterfly and its relationship with the host plant, the milkweed. As spring arrives, the milkweed sprouts through the earth and starts to grow. The monarch butterfly arrives and feeds from the milkweed. After mating, the monarch butterfly uses the plant to lay its eggs. Metamorphosis occurs as the caterpillar develops into a butterfly. The monarch butterfly migrates to Mexico in the fall. Throughout the growing season, the milkweed grows pods that open in the fall and the seeds are dispersed in the wind. Each spring, the cycle of life starts again for bother the monarch butterfly and milkweed. This video is an adaptation of the picture book written by Helen Frost and illustrated by Leonid Gore.
